Chemicals You Need to Start Your Aquarium

If you are asking what chemicals you need to start your aquarium, you probably have already bought the tank and stand, the hood, lightning, air-line tubing, a filter, a pump, a net, a heater and a thermometer. The gravel is waiting for you to put it inside the tank. The plants and the fish are at the pet shop waiting for you to fix the right conditions for their new home. Talking about chemicals you should know that these substances can be dangerous for you and for the fish as well. You and your family should pay special attention when using them.
For starters you are going to need some chemicals like: glass cleaner, dechlorinator, water conditioner, water clarifier, cycling chemicals, bacteria in a bottle, and bacteria in a medium. Some of these substances can be found only at the pet shops, while others are very common products that you can buy from any supermarket.

• The glass cleaner is necessary for cleaning the outside glass of the tank. The usual window cleaning products that you have in the house is enough for this action. You should pay attention when spraying, so that the substance doesn’t get inside the water to poison the fish.
• The dechlorinator is a liquid substance that is used for removing chlorine from the water so that the fish can live in the water you are putting into the tank.
Water conditioner detoxifies the water and removes chlorine from it because it includes dechlorinator and some other chemicals used for preparing the water for the fish.
Water clarifier is used for removing cloudiness in the tank. This cloudiness is caused by the nitrates and phosphates produced by the excess of bacteria activity.
• Cycling chemicals have the purpose of speeding the natural process of transforming ammonia into nitrites and nitrates. The benefic bacteria are doing this but if you want to fasten your aquarium’s cycles, you should use these cycling chemicals. You’ll have an aquarium full of fish and even fish to give to others, but you should not exaggerate against the nature.
• Bacteria in a bottle are natural and beneficial for the environment created in the tank. The bacteria are naturally transforming ammonia from fish waste into nitrites and nitrates, so that the water stays clean and healthy for the fish. There is no danger in using this product because the beneficial bacteria are not harmful for the fish and plants in the aquarium.

•  Bacteria on a medium is a medium that has been pre-colonized with beneficial bacteria. It has the role of speeding the cycling time. This medium is cleaning the water and it can be placed in a filtering system, depending on the type of the system.
It’s good to remember that there are a few chemicals that you need to have at home if you are planning to start your aquarium. Otherwise, the little beings inside the water are not going to be very happy and healthy. Make a list and buy them before letting your fish into the water.
