How to measure nitrate level (No3) in a freshwater aquarium with JBL Nitrate Test NO3

In this article we present how to measure nitrate using the JBL Nitrate Test NO3. The method developed by JBL to measure the nitrate level is pretty good and the measurement range is within 1-240mg/l. In freshwater aquariums the recommended level of NO3 is 5-25mg/l.

JBL Nitrate Test NO3 contains

  1. Syringe (5ml)
  2. Jars
  3. Comparator block
  4. Reagent 1
  5. Reagent 2
  6. Spoon
  7. Colour chart

Instructions to measure Nitrate level using JBL Nitrate Test NO3

  1. Rinse both jars in water (aquarium water)
  2. Using the syringe insert 10 ml of water in every jar (aquarium water)
  3. Add Reagent 1 in one jar (2 large spoons of Reagent 1), seal the jar and shake for 1 minute.
  4. Add Reagent 2 in the same jar (6 drops) , seal the jar and shake for 1 minute.
  5. Place both jars in the Comparator block, the jar with reagents into the smooth end of the comparator block, the jar with water place it into the notched end of the block.
  6. Place the comparator block on the colour chart and see which color matches with the color from your jar.

Remedies for Nitrate level too high

  1. Water changes
  2. Insert into the filter materials for nitrate removal (Seachem denitrate, JBL NitratEX, Dennerle NitrateStop Supra)

Remedies for Nitrate level too low

  1. Add fertilizers as Easy Life Nitro, Seachem Flourish Nitrogen, MICROBE LIFT Bloom&Grow Nitrogen
